Craig Hertler, M.D.
Dr. Hertler has been in practice in Portland since 1990. He completed his residency at Oregon Health Sciences University and is Board Certified in Otorlaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.
While his practice includes the full scope of the specialty, he has a special interest in the cure of children with ear, nose and throat problems and the treatment of nasal and sinus conditions. Dr. Hertler is a strong believer in continuing medical education. As a result he is able to provide current and innovative treatment techniques for chronic sinus conditions, snoring and a wide range of other conditions affecting the head and neck area.
Outside of work, Dr. Hertler enjoys spending time with his family that includes two boys. Hiking, camping, mountaineering and biking are his favorite past times.
Known for his gentle touch and compassionate care, Dr. Hertler strives to deliver the highest quality care to his patients of all ages.
Maxwell Furr, M.D.
Dr. Maxwell Furr is the most recent addition to the practice. Dr. Furr grew up in western Pennsylvania. He attended Tufts University, where he received a Bachelor in Science in Biopsychology while representing the University as a NCAA Division III Varsity Soccer player. Dr. Furr completed his premedical studies at Harvard University. He attended Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society. Dr. Furr completed his internship and residency training in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at Oregon Health & Science University.
During his residency, Dr. Furr conducted research in wound healing, reconstructive surgery of the head and neck, and cosmetic facial plastic surgery. He also worked to describe novel ways to improve our ability to care for cleft palate patients in the third world. Dr. Furr has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals, and has had the honor of speaking at national specialty meetings. Most recently, Dr. Furr spent a year in Fellowship training under the direction of Dr. Harry Mittelman, a leader in facelift surgery, laser facial resurfacing, and facial implants.
Dr. Furr is Board-Eligible in the specialties of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. His practice includes the diagnosis and treatment of a broad spectrum of Ear, Nose, and Throat disorders, as well as Cosmetic and Reconstructive Facial Surgery. Dr. Furr is particularly interested in the use of minimally-invasive techniques to combat aging, including laser therapy, injectables, and dermal fillers. His interests also include functional and cosmetic surgery of the nose (rhinoplasty), and prevention/treatment of skin cancers. In his free time Dr. Furr enjoys spending time with his wife, playing golf, and exploring the wilderness of Oregon and California.
Andrew K. Patel, M.D.
Dr. Patel grew up in a small, Kentucky town before moving to the west coast during high school. He attended the University of California at Davis, where he double majored in neurobiology and psychology. He
obtained his medical degree from the University of California at San Francisco. During his time at UCSF, he was able to complete a oneyear Howard Hughes Medical Institute research fellowship at New York
Dr. Patel completed his internship and residency training in Otolaryngology at the University of California at San Diego. In addition to this training program, he completed a yearlong National Institutes of Health-funded research project in tumor biology. Most recently, Dr. Patel spent a year in fellowship training in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstructive surgery at Mayo Clinic Arizona. During his residency and fellowship, Dr. Patel conducted research in tumor biology, treatment of head and neck cancer, head and neck reconstructive surgery and hearing loss. Dr. Patel has been published in multiple peer-reviewed medical journals and has had the honor of speaking at many symposiums, including the International Conference on Head and Neck Cancer in Toronto, Canada.
Dr. Patel is Board certified in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck surgery. His practice specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of the full spectrum of ear, nose and throat disorders, the treatment of head and neck cancer and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Patel has experience with both traditional open and minimally-invasive procedures, including transoral laser microsurgery for head and neck cancer. He is also interested in the treatment of thyroid and endocrine disorders and in the prevention and treatment of skin cancers. Dr. Patel strives to provide the highest quality individualized care for his patients. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and son, exercising, gourmet cooking and exploring the great outdoors of the Pacific Northwest.
